Last week was our Well-being week. The Student Council organised some great events. The theme was kindness and friendship. We had walking, dancing, mindfulness and food sampling.
Friendship Monday
Today was the first day of our well-being week. Each class revised all the ways we can be kind to each other. We played friendship games. For homework this week we had a mindfulness journal. We were able to reflect on the day and see all the positive things that happened to us. Mindfulness meditation was also part of our day.
Wellness Walk
For the month of February we walked a kilometre everyday. Every class had a movement break. We were able to track how long it would take us to do the kilometre, we were getting faster as the month moved on. On Tuesday every child came to school wearing a hi-vis vest. 6th class lead the way as we walked to Gurteen Cross. The weather cooperated and we had a lovely time on the walk. This year we raised money for Zamda, Irish Zambian Aid Project. Mr McCluskey is involved in this great cause and doing excellent work in Zambia. Thank you to everyone who supported this great cause.
Friendship Wednesday
On Wednesday we all took part in a whole school project. Every child was given a leaf. We could write or draw ways of being kind to friends. These are all displayed on the front windows. We did some mindfulness today where we could focus on being in the present.
Musical Thursday
Today was all about music. Listening to music is very good for our wellbeing. 3rd to 6th class went to the musical “Grease”. This was performed by Bandon Grammar School. It was an excellent performance. Meanwhile Taylor Swift, Noah Kahn and more could be heard on the loudspeakers in the yard at lunchtime. The children had great fun at the disco. And some teachers were seen throwing shapes too!!!!!
Healthy Eating Friday
Friday was a very tasty day. The Parent’s Association kindly had a fabulous display of healthy food for us to sample. There was fruit, veg, hummus, smoothies and much more. The benefits of healthy food is beneficial for our health and wellbeing. We really enjoyed it.
Well-being was good fun this year. It was lovely to see the friendship crowns and friendship door that some classes created. We hope you will remember the ways we can continue to be kind and form great friendships.
