Scoil Naomh Seosamh, Laragh is a primary school on the Bandon to Newcestown road, 3km from Bandon town. It is a Catholic co-educational primary school under the patronage of the Bishop of Cork and Ross. While we have a Catholic ethos, we also give due recognition to all other religious faiths and beliefs.
Mission Statement:
Scoil Naomh Seosamh, Laragh strives to create a happy, safe and friendly environment where every child can reach their full potential. We endeavour to construct a welcoming atmosphere where teaching and learning is undertaken in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect.
About Our School:
A school has been present in Laragh since 1841. The present school building opened in 1967, as a two teacher school, with 29 pupils on roll. Today, the school has an enrolment of 181 pupils with 7 classroom teachers, a Special Class for pupils with autism and 2.3 Special Education Teachers. To facilitate our pupils, our school was extended in 2006, 2011 and 2021.
The school grounds have two tarmac play areas as well as plenty grass areas for use during good weather.
We are fortunate to be supported by a very active and supportive Parents Association. Our Parents Association are very involved in organising family events throughout the year as well as supporting school initiatives. Our Parents Association financed and set up a very attractive sensory space in our school building. They also financed the installation of 2 horizontal climbing walls, a chess table, a ludo/snakes & ladders table and 2 table tennis tables to enhance the school’s outdoor area. So much to do for pupils at break times.

Remembering Former Principal Mr. Peter Murphy.
On July 4th 2025, Mr. Peter Murphy died. Pete was the principal of Laragh N.S. from 1954 until 1993 – a remarkable 39 years. It was Mr. Murphy who oversaw the move from the ‘old’ school to the ’new’ school in 1967. Pete was always very friendly, helpful and if you met Pete he was never in a rush and had so much time to talk to you. He has a great legacy in this, his local area.
