Scoil Naomh Seosamh, Laragh is a primary school on the Bandon to Newcestown road, 3km from Bandon town. It is a Catholic co-educational primary school under the patronage of the Bishop of Cork and Ross. While we have a Catholic ethos, we also give due recognition to all other religious faiths and beliefs.
Mission Statement:
Scoil Naomh Seosamh, Laragh strives to create a happy, safe and friendly environment where every child can reach their full potential. We endeavour to construct a welcoming atmosphere where teaching and learning is undertaken in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect.
About Our School:
A school has been present in Laragh since 1841. The present building opened in 1967 as a two teacher school with 29 pupils on roll. Today, the school has an enrolment of 190 pupils with eight classroom teachers, 2.5 SEN (special educational needs) teachers and 2 special needs assistant posts. To facilitate our pupils, our school was extended in 2006, 2011 and 2021.
The school grounds have two tarmac play areas as well as plenty grass areas for good weather.
We are fortunate to be supported by a large, active Parents Association. Our Parents Association are very involved in organising family events throughout the year as well as supporting school initiatives. Recently the Parents Association established and financed a very attractive sensory space in our school building. Also our Parents Association initiated the installation of 2 horizontal climbing wall and a very popular chess table to enhance the school’s outdoor area. This gives pupils a greater choice of activities at break times.
